All Abilities equipment for South-East Suburbs

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced six local South-East parks are set to receive upgrades making them more inclusive and accessible to people of all abilities.
Local Councillor Adrian Schrinner said upgrades of Carindale Recreation Reserve, Preston Road Park, Glindemann Park, Bulimba Riverside Park, Hawthorne Park and Perth Street Park form a part of the Lord Mayor’s Brisbane Access and Inclusion Plan 2012-2017, just released.
“The ambitious but achievable goals outlined in this plan reaffirm Brisbane’s standing as Australia’s new world city,” Cr Schrinner said.
“It is about universal access - so that everyone can easily use public parks and facilities, participate in Council programs and receive full benefits from our local government services.”
Cr Schrinner said 33 parks across Brisbane would receive various upgrades as part of a holistic approach to making park facilities more accessible.
“This may include changes to car parks, access paths, picnic areas, drinking fountains, rubbish bins and seating,” said Cr Schrinner.
“Many people may not realise how something simple, like installing a path from the car park to the playground or picnic area, can help those with limited mobility enjoy Brisbane’s beautiful parks and green spaces.
“Better access and inclusion will benefit all Brisbane residents and visitors –and, in particular, people with a disability, people with chronic illness, people experiencing temporary impairment, seniors, parents with young children and associated family, friends and carers.”
