About Adrian

Adrian has served as the Councillor for Chandler Ward since September 2005 and as Deputy Mayor since April 2011. He is also the Chairmain of Council's Finance and Economic Development Committee.
Adrian loves Brisbane and his local area and is working hard to help make sure our city and its suburbs are even better in the future.
Priorities
His top priorities for the local area include:
- tackling local traffic congestion 'hotspots' and improving road safety
- continuing to upgrade local parks, playgrounds and sporting reserves
- fighting for new bus routes and better services for local suburbs
- protecting our bushland areas for future generations
- supporting the great work being done by local community groups
- continually seeking feedback from residents on the issues affecting the local area.
Background and Qualifications
Adrian is a true Brisbane local who was born here and grew-up in the south eastern suburbs. He went to school locally at Christian Outreach College (now Citipointe College), based on Wecker Road.
As a teenager, Adrian’s passion was flying and he spent many years working in his family’s small business to help fund flying lessons. He flew a light aircraft solo for the first time at the age of 17.
Adrian served briefly in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) before his strong sense of community motivated him to get involved in local government.
Prior to his election he also worked as an advisor to a number of Local and Federal Government elected representatives.
His qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Government) - University of Queensland
- Graduate Certificate in Governance and Public Affairs - University of Queensland
- Successful completion of Company Director's Course - Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD)
Adrian lives in the suburb of Carindale with his wife Nina.
Civic Cabinet and Committee responsibilities
Adrian is the Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Finance and Economic Development Committee. Together with the Lord Mayor and the six other committee chairs, he is also a member of Civic Cabinet.

The Finance and Economic Development committee oversees the financial management of Australia's largest Council and works to promote the economic growth of Brisbane.
A key part of this role is assisting the Lord Mayor with the preparation of Council's annual budget ($2.9 billion in 2011-12).
Through responsible financial management, Council has been able to invest more than ever before in improving our suburbs, whilst also delivering the major road and transport upgrades our growing city needs.
Despite challenging economic times and the massive financial impact of the 2011 Brisbane flood, Council continues to run a balanced (surplus) budget. This is in stark contrast to the massive, unsustainable budget deficits currently being generated by the State and Federal Governments.
Council's Economic Development Program aims at enhancing Brisbane’s capacity for long-term economic growth and includes the oversight of Brisbane Marketing. Brisbane’s $104 billion economy is the ‘engine room’ of Queensland and is driven by a strong, innovative service industry sector and the nation’s largest infrastructure program. Following the resignation of Campbell Newman in April 2011 and his subsequent replacement by Councillor Graham Quirk, Adrian was endorsed by his colleagues as Brisbane's Deputy Mayor. He is the youngest person to serve as Deputy Mayor in the City's history.
Community Involvement
Adrian is actively involved in supporting and assisting a wide range of local community groups, including environment and bushcare groups, sporting groups, P&C associations, church groups and charities, Neighbourhood Watch groups and seniors associations.
He is honoured to be the patron of the
Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Association (BMTA), based at the Whites Hill Reserve, and the Square Dancing Society of Queensland.
Adrian is also a Vice Patron for the Queensland Target Sports Inc, home of the Queensland Olympic Rifle sports shooting disciplines in Gumdale.
He is a member (Life Subscriber) and former State Councillor of the
Australian National Flag Association (QLD) - an organisation aimed at promoting the importance and significance of our chief national symbol - the Australian National Flag.
